Rejuvenating the high street is something that we all want to see. The demise of the high street came through a perfect storm scenario and highlighted a shift in purchasing patterns from offline physical retail to online. This combined with out-of-town shopping and the local independent retailers struggling to cope plus the pandemic has however given us an opportunity to refresh the High street environment and offer startups and out-of-home businesses a platform to promote themselves in the high street. Giving innovation a chance, which has given Carrier Pigeon (an interactive digital signage-based community tool) a platform to develop. The digital high street has always been the stuff of science fiction but now we are in a position to develop a future proof or at least resistant platform for local and SME businesses to thrive even when they dont have a shop front. Not only this but the cultural aspect of our local towns and communities now has a voice in our drab high streets.
